Tax Amnesty on Delinquent Real Property Taxes |
Mayor Cataquiz said that she approved the ordinance “to
relieve San Pedro real property owners of additional burden in the payment of
their RPT and collect more taxes for development programs of the local
government “.
Under Section 9 of the ordinance, delinquent taxpayers who
will pay from November 1, 2015 to March 31, 2016 will be granted 100%
condonation on penalties, interests and surcharges, while those paying from
April 1, 2016 to May 31, 2016 shall enjoy only 50% relief. The amnesty covers
real properties whether declared or undeclared, and whether classified as
residential, commercial, agricultural or industrial, including improvements
thereon.
To avail of the amnesty, the taxpayer shall pay the full
amount of the unpaid taxes. The ordinance however authorizes the City Treasurer
to allow the payment of the unpaid taxes in installment provided that 50% of
the total amount due is remitted on the date of the signing of the Compromise
Agreement. The taxpayer shall issue post-dated checks for the balance payable
for three to six months depending on the amount of the balance.
For the period of the tax amnesty, the City Treasurer shall
not conduct any public auction of real properties due to non-payment of tax
declaration, and can only do so upon the expiration of this amnesty program.
